ABOUT ABOUT

Are you interested in finding out about using free and open source software in your business? Or perhaps you have heard of it but don't fully understand what it means. When it comes to business software, everything has been written already - re-usable software is available, and can be downloaded for free.

The aim of the session is to help organisations understand a little more about open source and free software in a professional environment. The presentation will include an explanation of the principles and practicalities of adopting this approach and contrast this against the traditional approach to business software.

In this session we will answer key questions including:

What is open source?

Why do people make free software - how do they pay the bills?

If it is free, do I own my application?

What sort of companies are using it?

If it is open, is it secure?

So, why are businesses still buying software?

If you are thinking that this is just for the techies, come along and get a business perspective.

OpusVL are hosting this informative event as part of our technology week within the CW business festival. The UK Open Source Industry Association runs out of Rugby town, and is active in supporting public and private sector organisations in transitioning to open source, encouraging a culture of collaboration and sharing among local, national and international communities.
